Rev. Meghan Davis-Brass
Pastor
Our new pastor, Rev. Meghan Davis is excited to have joined us in June 2014. Previously, Meghan served five years in her first call at Longview Presbyterian Church in Washington State. She earned her Master of Divinity from San Francisco Theological Seminary. Her training included Clinical Pastoral Education (or “pastor boot camp”) at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and an internship at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Napa, CA.
Meghan was born and raised in Taos, New Mexico and had her first sojourn to the Midwest when attending the College of Wooster in Ohio. She majored in comparative literature, minored in theater and Russian studies and spent a semester in Russia. Next, she attended Ohio University for an MA in theater history and criticism. Meghan was a dramaturg (don’t worry, no one else knows what that means either, but if you ask she’s happy to explain) and worked at theaters in Chicago, Louisville, Cape Cod, San Francisco and even Singapore before leaving the theater gypsy life to answer God’s call to ministry.
Meghan is a certified yoga instructor and is in the process of writing about incorporating yoga into Christian spiritual practice. She looks forward to teaching Christian yoga classes here at First Pres., as well as joining in the ministry First Pres. already does so well: mission, worship, music and education programs, and exploring areas together where we can learn and grow.
Most of Meghan’s family is in California including her mother, sister and her family—including two beloved nephews. Meghan’s dad and his wife live in New Mexico. When not doing ministry or yoga, she enjoys reading, watching movies, knitting (poorly), and running (slowly) and is looking forward to getting to know Newton and Iowa.
