Whether you are new to the Newton area or have lived here for many years, we welcome you to visit First Presbyterian Church and worship with us. Our congregation is comprised of members of all ages, and we hope that you will feel warmly welcomed and at home with us. We invite you to explore this website and to talk (perhaps by engaging in conversation during the fellowship hour before or after church services) with any member or pastor about the various opportunities for active involvement for adults and youth that we offer. Whether your interests lie in developing your spiritual knowledge, sharing your talents to enhance worship or your time to serve others as God’s “hands," First Presbyterian Church of Newton has groups that provide opportunities to fill these needs. We are always interested in members’ ideas about ways to explore new avenues of spiritual growth, learning and service.
We realize that different congregations have different personalities and styles; while we are basically a traditional congregation, we strive to be friendly, welcoming, and open to new ideas and forms of worship. We tend to dress for worship in business casual attire: most men wear slacks and buttoned sport or polo shirts, though some prefer shirt, tie and a suit or sport coat; most women wear slacks or skirts and blouses or sweaters, or more casual dresses. Children generally wear the type of clothing they might wear to school, though on special occasions some fancy dresses or outfits can be seen.
If after visiting our church you are interested in exploring membership, please contact the church office (641.792.2790) for information concerning new member sessions, in which there will be discussions of what it means to be a Christian, a Presbyterian, and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Newton. There will be opportunities to ask questions and learn more about who we are.
We are delighted that you are interested in learning about First Presbyterian Church in Newton and hope to have the opportunity to get to know you!
