Local Opportunities

  • Gift cards for food to give to persons begging for food
  • Salvation Army Food Pantry - donations always needed, people to help with distributions needed
  • Salvation Army Bread and Produce Line - Tuesday and Friday
  • Blessing Box - north of Skiff parking lot (308 N 6th Ave E) - food, hygiene products
  • Meals on Wheels delivery - often advertise for weekday drivers; First Presbyterian is responsible for June weekends
  • RSVP drivers to Des Moines for appointments
  • RSVP volunteers in schools - read with students
  • Youth-service organizations - Big Brother Big Sister, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Camp Fire, 4H, youth sports coaching, YMCA scholarships
  • Kid Assist - cleaning/repair/delivery of equipment
  • Future opportunities in pattern of Work Weeks/days; Presbyterian Disaster Assistance efforts
  • Ramp ministry
  • Hospice volunteers - companionship, errands/odd jobs as requested
  • Iowa Mission of Mercy - dental clinic for two days somewhere in the state
  • Laundromat - pay for homeless laundry
  • Friends in Hope - donors, mentors, drivers, furniture movers, schedule presentations
