First Presbyterian Church owns a two-octave set of quality handbells. Other bell choir equipment includes tables and pads, music stands, folders, and lights. There is a sizeable collection of printed music arranged and intended for use by handbell choirs, ranging from simple arrangements appropriate for youth and beginner ringers to more intricate arrangements appropriate for intermediate and advanced ringers.
In past years, two bell choirs existed simultaneously, one which rehearsed over the noon hour, the other in the evening. A handbell choir was organized in December 2009 to play at Christmas eve services, and the group hopes to play occasionally throughout the year as well. Several ringers in this group have experience playing, and some are new ringers. New ringers are always welcome. It is helpful to be able to read music, although with extra effort and practice, it is possible for non-music readers to ring. Please contact Jenny in the church office if you are interested in trying your hand at ringing.
