Chancel Choir

The congregation of First Presbyterian Church has always had a deep appreciation of music, and its Chancel Choir regularly contributes significantly to worship services. The choir, which rehearses in the sanctuary on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m., sings an anthem most Sundays from September through May (generally, no anthem is presented on one Sunday of each month).  Larry Anderson, with fine musicianship and meticulous attention to the nuances of both lyrics and music, conducts the choir and leads its preparation of music appropriate not only to the season but often in confluence with the lectionary and/or sermon topic for a given week.  We are also blessed to have in our choir Warren Erickson, who has composed several pieces which the choir has sung and who serves as a substitute conductor when the need arises.  The church has an extensive music library including a wide range of styles and composers of music, from classic to contemporary.  The choir’s membership has fluctuated over the years from around two dozen to almost forty members, and new members are always enthusiastically welcomed in all sections.  We have plenty of choir robes and stoles, purchased at the time of the renovation of the sanctuary, and would love to fill them all.  If you love to sing, please consider sharing your talent.
